At Small Miracles Orphans Home (SMOH), our mission is rooted in faith, and it is through God's grace that we provide a safe and healthy environment for every child in our care. A cornerstone of this commitment is ensuring access to clean, safe drinking water—a fundamental need that recently became a critical crisis for our community. For too long, our village relied on an old, cracked well, and the contamination led to a devastating outbreak of waterborne illness. Our hearts were heavy when 18 of our children and three adults became gravely ill with typhoid, a direct result of the unsafe water.
In the face of this hardship, we found strength and resolve in our faith, standing on the promise of Isaiah 41:17: "The poor and needy search for water, but there is none; their tongues are parched with thirst. But I the Lord will answer them; I, the God of Israel, will not forsake them."
Inspired by this powerful verse, we launched a fundraiser to construct a new, deep-water well that would provide a sustainable source of clean water for both the orphanage and the surrounding village. What followed was a true testament to community and divine provision. This was not a journey we took alone; it was a powerful collaboration that truly embodied our community's spirit. Through a joint project between our U.S. supporters and local Ugandan leaders, we were able to raise over $2,000. The local community's generosity was especially profound, with leaders donating half of the total expense.
Thanks to this combined effort, we have fulfilled the promise of that verse. The new, deep-water well provides a steady supply of clean, safe drinking water, protecting the health of every child at SMOH and bringing relief to countless families in the village. This project is more than just a well; it's a testament to what can be achieved when a community unites for a common cause and trusts in a higher power. It's a lifeline that has replaced fear with hope and illness with health, ensuring a brighter, safer future for all of Lwanda.
